Sociology of education is a foundation subject in teacher education. It defines the concept of sociology and its application to education. The course seeks to equip the learner with knowledge and attitudes that will enable them to appreciate the role of Sociology in education. The unit exposes the learners to study individuals' experiences and situations that influence education. This course also examines, social institutions and their influence on educational attainment and achievement.

This is an online course and all resources will be made available to you through our college Learning Management System which you shall be inducted into on its use.  Exams will be done face to face in college on the date that you will be communicated to. You need a laptop or a smartphone for this class. You will be evaluated through individual CATS, group work, and end-of-term exams.

Course Description:
This course equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to understand, analyze, and effectively manage conflict in diverse social, organizational, and community settings. It explores the nature of conflict, its causes, dynamics, and consequences, while emphasizing constructive approaches to resolution that promote dialogue, equity, and sustainable peace.
Learners will examine various conflict resolution models, negotiation techniques, and mediation processes, with a focus on culturally sensitive and context-specific strategies. The course integrates theoretical frameworks with practical applications, including case studies from Kenya’s urban informal settlements, where resource scarcity, gender disparities, and social exclusion often fuel tensions.
Through interactive sessions, role plays, and collaborative exercises, participants will develop competencies in communication, emotional intelligence, and collaborative problem-solving—essential for fostering inclusive development and social harmony

This course provides learners with a critical understanding of advocacy and lobbying as strategic tools for influencing public policy, advancing social justice, and promoting community development.
